Oprah Winfrey has worked her way up phenomenally, and she’s sitting way up higher than she’s ever thought she would. The empire that Oprah built for herself is immense, and she can afford anything she wants – so we can expect some extravagant acquisitions! As a philanthropist, she is generous and has donated plenty of her fortune, so she can’t feel bad about splurging on herself as a treat – even if it is more often than not! Here, we take a look at her Montecito home in particular, and a peep at two other homes owned by the TV mogul.
Perfection at its Best
While we aren’t suggesting that beauty is about what’s on the outside metaphorically, when it comes to Oprah’s home, beauty is simply the first thing that meets the eye! This aerial view of Oprah’s $90-million Montecito home is a teaser of what you can expect on the inside. You can tell from the well-manicured landscapes and the attractive architecture of the deluxe house that there’ve been no expenses spared in beautifying this house and making it as luxurious as possible! Constructed in 1912, it sprawls across 23,000 square feet of space and boasts fourteen bathrooms, six bedrooms, a swimming pool, wine cellar, and more!
An Inspiring Garden
Here, we have a rich and attractive assortment of the most delicate and beautiful flowers that you could only wish to have growing in your garden – daffodils, dahlias, roses, lilies, and several other exotic blooms. This is a very small section of Oprah’s garden, but it is so beautiful that we can’t imagine tearing ourselves away from it to enter a glum film studio!! Of course, without the studio, Oprah wouldn’t have made the money to afford this beauty, so she has to go in, regardless! We imagine the fragrance from this section of the garden must be intoxicating!
An Inviting Pool
Every self-respecting celebrity who owns a home certainly has one with a pool. After all, what’s a celebrity home without that luxury to take a dip into (even if they don’t even use it)! Well, here is Oprah’s, and it is a small but cozy little pool tucked away behind some shrubbery that offers a bit of privacy. It looks like a comfortable space to relax in and take a swim every now and then – though we wonder how often Oprah actually does go for a swim, as we imagine her schedule must be rather packed! In any case, the swimming pool maintenance guys must be thrilled to have Oprah as their client.
The Glorious Koi Pond
Oprah Winfrey isn’t just a star – she’s the star of stars, and that title comes with a loaded bank account from which she can draw whatever cash she requires to purchase practically anything under the sun! We’ve spoken about the pool, but sometimes, Oprah needs water therapy that involves a bit more nature – like this Koi Pond over here! The more we get into it, the more Oprah’s home seems like a resort! Boy, are these fish lucky to be Oprah’s – we expect they live in a luxury of their own in these gorgeous waters!
A Special Touch
This is a symbolic sculpture on the grounds of Oprah’s home, one that was produced by Francisco Zuniga who is a Costa Rican-born Mexican painter. The captivating sculpture is named the Grupo De Quarto Mujeres De Pie, and the sculpture actually symbolizes four crucial stages of life using the forms of four peasant women. Each woman represents a stage, and the stages are old age, middle age, pregnancy, and adolescence. It certainly is a thought-provoking sculpture! And of course, the surroundings are wonderfully conducive for a person to get lost in deep thought!
A Homage
This is another marvelous statue on Oprah’s grounds that is of great interest. It rests in the gigantic backyard and is an aesthetic piece of art, whose exquisiteness you can’t help but admire. The gorgeous sculpture possesses a sort of Roman quality to it, with its indulgent beauty and complete with delicate hydrangea shrubs. It’s called the ‘Hallelujah Lane.’ This attraction is actually Oprah’s way of giving homage to her dear grandmother, and we think the charm and delicateness of the entire setup are quite fitting! If you appreciate this sort of thing, then you may want to have one built, too – if your personal finances can afford it, of course!
Knowledge is Power
When you are Oprah Winfrey, you don’t go to not just any library – you simply have your own private library in the comfort of your own home! Actually, it is called a reading room, but of course, it serves the very same purpose. Oprah is a successful woman, and we all know what the research says – success begins with knowledge, and knowledge is acquired through reading! So of course, Oprah wouldn’t pass up on a room to feed her growing success, now would she! What we wonder is, has Oprah read all of those books?
Another Angle of the Reading Room
This is another picture of the reading room, where Oprah presumably cooks up her recipes for success. From this angle, you can better see how organized the bookshelves are and it actually brings us to question whether she reads them at all or whether they are simply for display purposes, just to suit the home decor! The room is a cozy one, perfect for snuggling up and curling on the sofa with a good read – though we are suspicious of the eerie-looking doll on the sofa! So now we know where Oprah likely relaxes with a cup of tea or coffee in hand as she browses through materials!
A Space for Feasting
This dining room table is so shiny that we wonder whether it’s actually ever used or not! The dining room rests adjacent to the kitchen, for convenience, of course. The maple-colored table is large and can accommodate a fine spread indeed! The two candelabras are reminiscent of the dinners we see set before kings and queens – quite apt, as Oprah can be described as celebrity royalty! The rug beneath the table seems faded, but we suspect that it may be the desired vintage look, as Oprah can certainly afford to buy a new rug – or millions of them, from her fat savings account.
Bathing in Luxury
Just looking at this bathroom makes us want to hop in the bath and relax in some bubbles! This bathroom is sort of zen-like in its design, with the natural wood finish of the bathtub and the complimenting color of the tiles in the large shower. Something tells us that a pot of bamboo can go very well with this setup! Oprah once shared that she, her siblings, and parents had to all share one tub when she was growing up. Hence, this must be the reason why she has gone all out in customizing her bath fixtures now that she has the means to do so!
A Woman’s Dream Space
We’ve all heard the stereotypes about women and their clothing, and how they tend to be shopaholics! Of course, Oprah has the means to go shopping every day if she wants to, and perhaps she does, who knows! A woman with a variety of clothes and footwear from top designers needs a large space in which to keep it all in order – and that’s where Oprah’s walk-in closet comes in handy! She has all the room in the world to choose her perfect outfit for any occasion! We see she has quite a collection of handbags, too!
A Foyer with Flair
Oprah is allowed to be as fancy as she wants to be, and so we don’t blink an eye when she calls the prime entrance hall of her home her ‘foyer.’ There’s a gorgeous decorative banister that flanks her staircase that has caught our eye! And we see Oprah has an appreciation for the arts, as you can see by the painting so modestly perched on the pale yellow wall. Oprah decorates the space with picture frames of those dear to her, too, giving the deluxe house its homey feel. There’s no place like home for Oprah!
A Cozy Kitchen
This picture of Oprah’s kitchen may, at first glance, seem like the kitchen is rather ordinary. However, if you look carefully, you will notice the luxury is in the detailing – it’s in the embossed walls, the stone fixtures, and the chef’s stove. We quite like the oven that we see on the left, and we imagine Oprah’s cook must make a mean pizza – or a filet mignon! On the right is a fireplace, sure to set the mood for a cozy cup of hot chocolate in the kitchen during winter! Oprah seems to be more traditional than we expected!
Sore Thumb
This is a room in Oprah Winfrey’s house that is nothing like any other room in her home. Just by looking at it, you can see why. The room is rather casual, nothing luxurious about it and no expensive details or fixtures. In fact, Oprah has once mentioned that this is a room that she wants to have redone, and we would love to see what she does with the place! It may not need major remodeling, but we guess the sofas and pillows should be the first to go! We see plenty of potential in this space, and we know Oprah does, too!
A Bit More Fitting
This is another living room in Oprah’s mansion, and it suits the rest of the home better than the last one we looked at. We see that Oprah loves her patterns, and everything is matching perfectly well down to the sofas, furniture, and the walls. The room is rather traditional, in keeping with Oprah’s taste, and rather inviting as well. There isn’t a television set in sight, and it gets us thinking that perhaps Oprah has had enough of television after a day’s work in the film studio! Besides, she probably has better ways to make use of her time!
The Magical Tea House
This addition is most definitely one of our favorites! When you have finances as robust as Oprah’s, having a little house dedicated to tea sessions is something you can easily do! This is her tea house, and the space is splendid for relaxing with a warm and comforting cup, perhaps with a friend or two to have a chat with or a couple of loved ones to catch up on things. The tea house was previously a place where people cut flowers, but Oprah wanted some relaxing spot where she could sip her tea. Hence, the tea house!
A Space For Peace
That peep into the tea house has people wondering just what the tea house actually looks like! Here you can see that the place has a beautifully comforting quality, which is why Oprah must be using it to meditate in, lounge around, and enjoy a cup of tea. There are no digital devices in the tea house, which must be a relief after a day’s work! The space is serene, and in a way, ethereal. The atmosphere is perfect for times when you want to simply melt your stress away, forget your troubles, and kick back – no need for health insurance claims for stress-related issues any longer!
The Luxurious Guest House
What use is a luxury home without a guest house for the ultimate experience for your family and friends who come to visit? The stylish little area is a home away from home for anybody who is fortunate enough to get invited for a weekend or a night over at Oprah’s! In keeping with Oprah’s traditional taste, the room has been tastefully decorated in floral-patterned matching furniture and walls and is complete with a cozy fireplace for chilly nights. The home is situated in California though, so we doubt the fireplace gets much use!
New Additions
Oprah did not buy her house looking like how it is now, as seen in these pictures. She spent a lot of effort and cash in adding features over the years. To get an idea of the kind of money Oprah invested in to do what she liked into the home, just chew on this – she spent roughly $28.85 million in order to add on a section to her home. These include a fruit orchard, horses and stables with an equestrian ring, and more. With such an eye-watering figure, we fear knowing what she had spent in total with all the changes she had made put together!
A Horse Farm – Without Horses
When you are Oprah Winfrey, your home is incomplete without a barn and a stall for a couple of horses. Yet, the funny thing is – Oprah didn’t buy the horse farm for love of horses! In fact, she mentioned she didn’t want to have any. We bet her guests would have enjoyed the time with the horses whenever they stay over. We just can’t imagine Oprah sitting on a horse, galloping in the wind with her hair blowing behind her. The horse farm is called Seamair Farm, and it was purchased through an auction in 2016.
A Good View
This is a zoomed out picture of Oprah’s home, and as massive as her mansion looks in this shot, bear in mind that the image doesn’t even capture her entire estate! The property is far larger than what this picture leads one to believe. Oprah’s home is a treasure trove of delightful spaces and beautiful features, and most of all – it is not cold and unwelcoming; it is actually very warm and homey, which is more than what can be said for several celebrity homes that lean more towards the contemporary design and minimalist style.
The Orcas Island Home
As you probably know, Oprah owns several homes. All the pictures before this were of one cool mansion of hers, and here is a photo of her Orcas Island place, which is rather enchanting with its lush foliage and magical lighting! This is one of Oprah’s more recent purchases. Oprah invested in the place in mid-2018 for the sum of $8 million. The home sits across 7,303 square feet of space and boasts four bedrooms, plus a guest house of four bedrooms on its own. The home is a secluded compound, in a postcard-ready area – so what’s not to like?!
Wonderful Woodwork
Inside the glorious-looking home in Orcas Island, it is a wonderment of woodwork – simply a wood lover’s dream! The entire home boasts wooden furnishings and careful detailing across the space, giving off an unreal feel about it! The place has a guest cottage and a gym, a woodworking studio, and a tea house as well. This cabin seems to have been handmade by the angels, as it is that spectacular! We can definitely imagine settling in ourselves even if we are city-people! The woodwork is so incredible that even somebody who doesn’t even like woodwork will learn to appreciate it!
Maui Wowi
While Oprah’s two houses are certainly jaw-droppingly stunning, her real estate collection doesn’t end there! Here we have Oprah’s home in Maui, in Hawaii, a grand space for her to relax in if she’s not feeling up to staying at Montecito or Orcas Island. This Maui house is resting on the Mount Haleakala hills, with a grandly designed porch that wraps around the whole house, overlooking breath-taking views. The place looks quiet and appears like the perfect space for a peaceful vacation to unwind and recharge, which we suspect Oprah feels, too! A good buy, indeed.
Oprah in the City: Chicago
Chicago is considered by several to be the greatest city on the planet – well, most of the people who claim that are actually residents of Chicago, to begin with! Irrespective, Oprah seems to be a person who enjoys a bit of the city every now and then. Oprah once owned a Chicago apartment, in which she would stay during the filming of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah had already cashed in on this investment (aka sold it), but the ‘Water Tower Place’ will forever hold memories for the mega-star! Maybe Illinois’ winters were too crisp for the warm-hearted Oprah!
Another Purchase
In 2014, Oprah was yet again collaborating with her real estate agents, searching for another place on the market. Oprah then chose Telluride in Colorado as her next place-to-be and we must agree that she certainly made an excellent choice! The home is gorgeous and fits in splendidly with the surrounding woods and mountains. We think it is a perfect hideaway on a bitterly cold night, with a warm fire in front of you, where you can toast marshmallows and soothe your soul with a cup of hot chocolate! Something tells us Oprah felt the same way – that was why she bought it!
Symbolism
All of Oprah’s homes are stunning aesthetically, and while they are undoubtedly beautiful, they actually look that way as a result of plenty of thought that went into decorating them. As an example of what we mean by this, Oprah’s Montecito home uses biblical symbolisms quite beautifully in that it is called ‘The Promised Land,’ and Oprah has a grove of 12 trees, each one representing one of the biblical apostles. Fancy, that, huh! And here you were thinking that all it was, was a pretty house with a bunch of trees, right!
An Unexpected Hobby
You would think that being a billionaire like Oprah would mean that menial tasks like gardening or even getting your hands dirty at all would come to an end. But Oprah certainly isn’t above digging into the earth! Quite literally, Oprah gets down and dirty planting in her private garden, though she can well afford to purchase her vegetables at the most expensive of stores or even have a delivery arranged for her. Those close to Oprah often receive baskets of fresh produce from the media mogul. We think it’s splendid that she has a hobby!
A Treasure Trove
Montecito is a teeny town that forms part of Santa Barbara City, and the town is a treasure trove of delicious food and grand restaurants, fabulous boutiques, and stunning coastlines. Just the recipe of happiness for a celeb looking for a home to call her own! There sure is a certain charm about Montecito and the little something special about the place is what Oprah found alluring right off the bat. There are other stars who live in the area, and perhaps over the next couple of years, we will see more familiar faces relocating to Montecito!
Ellen DeGeneres Wants In
Ellen DeGeneres announced in around 2013 that she had set her mind on finding a home in Montecito, so the quaint little town must have something in it that we don’t know about! Well, the talk show host ended up relocating as she had decided, into a lovely home in the area. It actually was not a first for Ellen to live in Montecito as she had previously owned a home there and when she moved back, she was in the midst of selling homes! So, are you wondering how close to Oprah’s Ellen DeGeneres’ new house in Montecito actually is?
They’re Neighbours!
Would you believe that Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres are actually neighbors?! The two ladies live right next door to each other. Ellen is in a gated nearby community, not a great distance from Oprah’s luscious and spacious acres of land. Imagine that! If Ellen ever ran out of sugar, she could perhaps pop by Oprah’s place to get some! The two women are actually long-time good friends and over the years, they have both remained quite close – in more ways than one, as you can tell! Well, they were destined to be friends, we suppose!

Today, Oprah is a billionaire, with too much cash in the bank to even count – but it wasn’t always that way! When she first started out, there was a lot she had to deal with to climb her way up the ladder to get to where she is now. Oprah faced plenty of adversities in her journey to the top, and that may be the reason why she is such a generous woman. Oprah is recognized for her giving nature and she is a highly influential, caring person. We think she deserves a couple of multi-million dollar mansions to kick back in!
