For a mother or father, there are few things in life that are more painful than losing a child – in fact, many would argue that there is nothing worse. However, there are some things that occur in people’s lives that cannot be explained by medicine or by science and because of this, they are simply miracles. Miracles are there to give us hope and remind us that in every situation, we need to hang on and not throw in the towel. Not every story has a happy ending, but those that do, help us all move forward. Let’s take a look at two miracles that happened to babies in separate parts of the world…
The Worst News For a Parent

When you are a new mom or dad, there is nothing more important to you than the health of your new-born child, and this is a natural instinct and natural emotion to feel when you have welcomed a child into the world. The pain and suffering of losing one are difficult to describe, and for Ivis Montoya, it was one step worse, because not only was her beloved baby proclaimed dead, but the child was already seven months old. Hence, a strong bond had already developed between Ivis and her child.
It Started When Something Went Wrong

Keilin Johanna Ortiz Montaya was rushed by her mother to a hospital on August 3, 2018. The hospital in question was the Rivas hospital, located in Honduras, in Villanueva. Ivis was deeply concerned about her newborn and was desperate for her child to receive medical attention. As a mother, Ivis had a natural sixth sense that she developed and she simply knew that something was very wrong with her kid. She knew that it was best for trained medical professionals to treat Keilin so that she would have the best chance at recovery.
Keilin Was in Bad Shape

Ivis had admitted her child in the medical facility because Keilin suffered from convulsions, diarrhea, and severe dehydration. The dehydration was likely caused by diarrhea that was left untreated for a period of time. The toddler’s skin was also blistered as a result of a bad bacterial infection. The facility conducted intensive treatment of all the conditions that the child was manifesting, and Keilin was attended to in the pediatric wing of the hospital. In spite of everything the medical professionals tried, the child was pronounced dead on August 6, three days after her birth.
Issuing the Death Certificate

It was just three days after Keilin was rushed to the pediatric ward that she was pronounced dead. The medical facility officials arranged for the death certificate to be issued and all formalities were carried out. Ivis was deeply saddened and felt helpless by what had happened to her newborn. What made things all the worse was that Ivis didn’t even have enough money to take her child home for a proper burial. Ivis left the hospital with Keilin’s body and she went to her cousin’s home. She was severely distraught.
The Candlelit Vigil

Ivis was thankful for the support of the community and her family and close friends when they all got together and performed a late night candlelit vigil. Everyone was there to support Ivis in her time of suffering and bid farewell to the soul of Keilin, who had supposedly died so young and of unknown causes. Nobody believed that such circumstances were easy and everyone wanted to help Ivis through this very challenging and emotional period. There was a lot that still needed to be done, like the burial arrangements and the funeral proceedings, which were anxiety-causing and difficult for a bereaved mother to do alone.
A Very Poor Family

Ivis and her family lived in extreme poverty and could barely survive with their personal finances, not even being able to afford basic necessities like food. When the time had come for Keilin’s funeral, her body was placed in a chair in a nearby Dos Caminos church, because the family could not afford to purchase a coffin for the burial. Although, they indeed would very much have liked to give Keilin a deserving farewell. The funeral proceedings took place after the candle-lit vigil, and there were many people present, trying to assist wherever possible.
The Miracle

When a mother is standing at the funeral of her child, it is understandable for her to be experiencing all sorts of emotions, and hysteria may well be one of them. What happened next was unbelievable and created a great stir among the crowd. Ivis noticed a slight rise and fall of her toddler’s chest and she realized that she was still breathing! Of course, others present immediately assumed she was hysterical and couldn’t deal with the loss of her child. Her family probably thought she was suffering from mental illness from the shock.
Ivis Rushing For Help

Ivis was hoping for a miracle but she knew that it was time to take her child to medical professionals again. But she did not want the doctors who had declared her dead at the Rivas hospital to attend to her child again. Instead, Ivis rushed Keilin to a local clinic as quickly as she could. At the local clinic, Keilin was seen to immediately. The medical staff promptly set on administering medication to the child, who was definitely breathing. And then, a women’s support group convinced Ivis to take Keilin back to the same medical facility where she initially got the intensive care.
Digging for Answers

There was nobody who knew about what had happened who was not completely shocked out of their minds. The fact that Keilin had somehow proven to be alive on the day of her funeral was shocking and also deeply disturbing. Of course, the fact that the Rivas hospital had issued a death certificate for the baby and declared Keilin dead on August 6 meant that there was something gravely wrong at the facility. Elba Campos, the head of the Rivas Hospital pediatric unit, mentioned that there was an investigation into the incident taking place, but stated further that it was too soon for conclusions to be made.
Malpractice or Miracle?

In the meantime, while the pediatric unit was in a panic as to who was to blame and who was responsible for what seemed to be gross malpractice, the family of Ivis and Keilin were simply relieved beyond words. Just imagine their shock that somehow, a member of their family was returned to them and so the family simply viewed Keilin’s life as a miracle. The family was not pointing fingers at anybody but were deeply thankful for Kailin’s health. They were given hope and saw this experience as a symbol of it.
There is No More That We Know

As it stands at the moment, there have been no follow-up announcements on the condition of Keilin. We can all assume that Keilin is on the path to a full recovery from whatever diseases or infections that had led to her condition. Keilin has a whole community supporting her and her family will likely not have to worry about being helpless or alone during Keilin’s upbringing. There are also no updates on whether any action has been taken against the people responsible for issuing the death certificate. We simply have to hope that such a thing won’t ever happen to another parent. But then, maybe it was just a miracle!
A Will To Survive

Keilin had proven that her soul was destined for something on this earth, and nothing could stop her from fulfilling whatever purpose her life would serve – not even her own funeral! The story about Keilin is also a textbook case that shall serve as an inspiration for those who are in desperate need of hope. There are many things that happen in life and sometimes you feel like there is no hope left. But when miracles like these happen, we can be sure that there is a silver lining, after all.
Another Miracle

Keilin’s story is similar to yet another miraculous story – that of Luz Milagros, which translates to ‘Miracle Light.’ This is the story of a baby who was declared dead as well and even placed in the morgue before it was found that she was actually breathing! Luz was a premature baby, born at just six months through the term. It is astounding to believe that a premature baby of such a tiny size could withstand the circumstances and beat the odds the way she did! Here is a little bit about Luz’s story…
The Story of “Miracle Light”

The toddler survived the brutally cold conditions for almost 12 terrible hours before medical workers eventually discovered that the child was actually alive! The little child was trembling in its coffin, a tiny form with so much tenacity that it seemed unbelievable! Who knew that infants could survive such conditions as these! She had already spent 10 weeks in Buenos Aires hospital before being moved to a specialist unit in Resistencia. Discovering that the child was alive was an intensely emotional experience for her parents, and they had no idea what to do. She was to be named Lucia Abigail, but after such a miracle, she was named Luz Milagros.
To Long Life & Good Health

It is believed by some that children who start out in circumstances like these, or experience such miracles, are intended to live long, healthy, and happy lives until a ripe old age of retirement. We, too, hope for such a beautiful blessing, and these two stories, about Luz Milagros and Keilin Johanna Ortiz Montaya, are just examples of many, many miracles that happen across the globe. It is important that we recognize that there are some things in life that cannot be explained and that sometimes, there are no answers for some of the questions that we ask….
