Ever since the final season of the Game of Thrones was announced in July 2016, GoT fans have been sitting on the edge of their seats fraught with anxiety in anticipation of what the season will have in store for all their favorite and-not-so-favorite characters. Season eight of the hit series was filmed from October 2017 until July 2018. However, the cast and the crew did an excellent job of preventing any leaks, and we will all only really know what’s to happen when it is released in April 2019. Here, we give you a list of some minor and major characters and what might become of them…
The Biggest Thing They’ve Ever Done

Fans are anxious to watch the final season and are curious why it’s taking so long. But it’s official, Game of Thrones’ final season premieres on April 14. David Benioff and Dan Weiss said that fans will understand why it took so long to complete once they see it. It is the biggest thing they’ve done! This particular episode took weeks to complete. The White Walker battle scene is the biggest battle in the series and it took 55 night shoots for the outdoor scene. According to Peter Dinklage, this battle makes the Battle of the Bastards look like a theme park.
The Great Finale

They really made an effort to keep everyone from finding out what was going to happen in the final season. There was reportedly no paper on the set and the security was very high. The final episode was directed by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss which means we will be in for a surprise. They’ve spent 11 years working on the show and it matters a lot to them. That’s why they made sure that no one without a special “Episode 6” badge was allowed on the set. Emilia Clarke reportedly cried like a baby on the last day of filming.

Lena Headey as Queen Cersei – Probably will die

Cersei over here is a much-hated character in the Game of Thrones series – from season one through to season seven. She happens to be a member of one of the most powerful and wealthiest families in ‘Westeros.’ Her forbidden affair with her twin brother Jaime had viewers disgusted, but Cersei is a character all about ambition and an insatiable hunger for power. Season 7 closed with Queen Cersei finally pushing her brother Jaime over the edge, at which point he abandons her and sets off to the North alone. In the 8th season, it’s been speculated that she will be killed off.
Kit Harington as Jon Snow – Might take his rightful seat on the Iron Throne

Just as Cersei has always been a character deeply hated, Jon Snow is a character deeply loved in equal measure. Jon Snow, supposedly illegitimate son of Eddard Stark, but actually true heir to the Iron Throne, believes himself to be the King of the North. He does not know his true identity (Aegon Targaryen) and bloodline. In season 7, the final scene is of Jon consummating his relationship with Daenerys Targaryen, who he doesn’t realize is his blood aunt. Well, in season 8, it is expected that she is pregnant, from the first official photo of the 8th season, gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly in November 2018.
Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister – Might confront Jon Snow over relations with Daenerys

A spectacularly developed character who is recognized and loved for his sharp wit and an expert sense of humor is Tyrion Lannister. He is a dwarf, and so realizes that he won’t be taken seriously. He makes peace with this fact and comforts himself with self-indulgence and copious amounts of alcohol. It seems that Tyrion may have fallen for Daenerys, and season seven ends with a very concerned-looking Tyrion listening to Jon Snow and Daenerys ‘getting it on.’ It is unclear exactly what Tyrion is thinking, but it is being speculated that he will likely confront Jon Snow, leading to an altercation of sorts.
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen – Might become pregnant with Jon Snow’s baby

The beautiful Daenerys Targaryen is a strong and immensely confident woman, seeking the reclaim of the Seven Kingdoms she believes is rightfully hers – the Throne as her birthright. Much of season seven is about the tension between Jon Snow and Daenerys, but it is revealed that she is actually his blood aunt, but neither of them is yet aware of this. If the guess that Daenerys is carrying Jon’s baby will turn out to be true in the 8th season, then it may be the key to the defeat of the ‘Night King’ as the idea of ‘ice and fire’ coming together – the Azor Ahai prophecy.
Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth – Might reunite with Jaime

She is the only surviving bloodline of Lord Selwyn Tarth, and she is a well-meaning and highly protective character, known for doing the right thing and maintaining her principles. There was some tension between Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister in earlier seasons, and it has been suggested that perhaps in season 8, Jaime may reunite with Brienne, since he has finally abandoned his twin sister Cersei. Actress Gwendoline Christie shared that the details of the 8th season of the series will have fans requiring therapy! If that doesn’t have you on the edge of your seat, we don’t know what will!
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister – Might die saving Brienne

It’s a strange thing, how both Jaime and his sister Cersei are involved in a disgusting affair, by traditional social norms, but yet a particular fondness for Jaime’s character still grows in the hearts of viewers! We have mentioned that Jaime finally leaves Cersei in season 7, but we don’t know where he goes to when he leaves – and perhaps it is to support Daenerys and Jon Snow in their fight against the ‘undead.’ Cersei is with child, which does complicate things. Also, it is suspected that Jaime will be killed in season 8, perhaps dying to save someone else – like Brienne, perhaps.
Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark – Might give Daenerys a hard time

Sansa Stark is the Lady of Winterfell, and season 7 closed with Sansa and her sister Arya accusing ‘Littlefinger’ (Baelish) of treason and of murder. The two go on to reveal a number of crimes, including the murders he orchestrated. Baelish does try to plead for his life, but Arya ends it with his very own Valyrian dagger. For their own emotional health and peace of mind, the sisters resolve their differences, which have existed since season one of the show. In season 8, a clip was released with the trailer of Sansa Stark meeting Daenerys and Jon Snow, and it seems Sansa is accepting – or is she, really…?
John Bradley as Samwell Tarly – Might have to kill Gilly to fulfill a prophecy

Samwell Tarly’s parents are Lord Randyll Tarly and Lady Melessa Florent. Since seeing Sam’s incompetence in martial skills, his father decided to raise Sam’s younger brother to take Sam’s place in his duties. This left forced Sam to join the ‘Night’s Watch,’ leading him to become Jon Snow’s best friend. Sam happens to uncover key discoveries during the show, like finding the dragon glass and using it to kill the first White Walker. Sam also discovered a cure for ‘greyscale’ in season 7, curing Jorah. Sam is also a key element in uncovering Jon Snow’s true lineage. Sadly, it is speculated that he may kill his love, Gilly, in season 8.
Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark – Might actually be the Night King

Bran Stark had dreams of being a knight, but his dreams were shattered by him becoming a cripple as a result of Cersei pushing him out a window. Bran Stark is powerful even without his legs, though, with ‘Greensight’ allowing him to see the future and the past, and into the minds of others. Bran is known as the ‘Three-Eyed Raven,’ and in season 7, he tells Samwell about Jon being the illegitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen, but he finds out as well that Jon is not an illegitimate son. This can only mean that the Iron Throne will be Jon’s inheritance. In season 8, some fans have been speculating that Bran may be the Night King!
Maisie Williams as Arya Stark – Might take on the face of Petyr Baelish

The blunt and fearless Arya Stark is also known as a skin-changer and she can psychically bond with a Braavos street cat, and telepathically communicate with Nymeria, her dire wolf, in her dreams. In season 7, Arya manages to pull off a mass murder of Walder Frey and all his men, a revenge act for having killed her brother Robb Stark in the ‘Red Wedding’ massacre. In season 8, it is expected that Arya may be the only of Ned Stark’s children to survive – but time will tell what the producers and writers have really planned – so brace yourselves!
Conleth Hill as Varys – Might be plotting to kill as many people as necessary for a democracy

The bald Lord Varys was sold into slavery in his childhood, then bought by a sorcerer who used his genitals in a spell of some sort, leaving him a eunuch and on the streets. From a pick-pocketing business to eventually becoming a spy and running ‘little birds,’ Varys eventually serves as a member of the Small Council. His loyalty lies with no ruler, but with the people, and in season seven, he reveals that he believes Daenerys is the best ruler for the people. However, it is anticipated that perhaps in season 8, Varys may be a twist in the plot, perhaps killing Daenerys and create a democracy by destroying the throne.
Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth – Might die in the end

Ser Davos is known as the ‘Onion Knight’ and he serves Stannis Baratheon first, but after his defeat and death in Winterfell, Davos goes on to take the side of the Starks, particularly supportive of Jon Snow. Davos persuades Melisandre to resurrect Jon when he is killed, and after that, he becomes Jon’s lieutenant, principal advisor, and his right-hand man. When prompted to comment on the finale of the series, Liam Cunningham states that they are all going to die, which begs the question – does that mean the Night King claims the Seven Kingdoms? Well, we will have to wait and see.
Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy – Might rescue his sister Yara

Alfie Allen plays Prince Theon Greyjoy, who was raised by the Starks but is actually the last living son of Lord Balon Greyjoy. His older sister is Yara Greyjoy, who in season 7 is imprisoned by Queen Cersei, captured by Euron. Theon meets with Jon Snow in season 7 and is encouraged to save his sister. Theon then fights Harrag, Yara’s supporter, and defeats him, gaining the respect of the Ironborn, rallying them to Yara’s rescue. It is unclear whether Theon will trudge on with this rescue, following his inner Stark, or whether he will return to his selfish state in season 8.
Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane – Might begin a romance with Sansa Stark

Sandor Clegane, better known as ‘The Hound,’ is the skilled warrior who serves House Lannister, who fled King’s Landing during the Battle of the Blackwater. In season 7, The Hound returns to King’s Landing to meet with Cersei and convince her to join the Great War against the army of White Walkers. Cersei agrees, but The Hound is unaware that she actually plans not to send her men, and leaving them to be killed off. Game of Thrones fans have speculated a possible romantic affair between The Hound and Sansa Stark in season 8, which is certainly unexpected by most.
Iain Glen of Jorah Mormont – His greyscale might come out of remission

Jorah Mormont of House Mormont is fathered by Jeor Mormont, and he is a skilled warrior but without a title, because he was stripped of his Lordship for having been illegally selling poachers to slavery. In season 7, Jorah is cured of the greyscale disease by Samwell Tarly and released from the Citadel. Also in Season 7, Jorah returned to Dragonstone to be at Daenerys’ side. In season 8, it is suspected by some that Jorah will suffer a resurgence of his greyscale, which is said to never completely stop. It is believed that anyone afflicted will have no use for treatment and is sure to die from it. Perhaps Sam’s cure is temporary after all!
Carice van Houten as Melisandre – Might return to Westeros to die

Melisandre is known as the ‘Red Woman’ by the other characters, and she is the Red Priestess as per the religion of R’hllor. In season 7, Melisandre goes to Dragonstone to meet with Daenerys and convince her that Jon Snow plays an important role in the coming war. After some discussion, Daenerys agrees to meet with Jon, summoning him to bend the knee to her. Melisandre avoids Jon, and also Varys, who both prefer it that way after the mistakes that Melisandre have made in her prophecies. She reveals that she will have to return to Westeros to face her death.
Jerome Flynn as Bronn – Might have a secret identity

Ser Bronn of the Blackwater is a dangerous and skilled sellsword. He gains recognition during the trial by combat, fighting for Tyrion’s freedom at the Eyrie. Bronn happens to be contacted by Tyrion Lannister, who asks for a meeting with Jaime to be arranged, which is done in the Red Keep, and the brothers discuss the Great War and also the fight between Daenerys and Cersei. Well, Bronn has been a relatively minor character in the series thus far, but in season 8, fans have been toying with the idea that perhaps Bronn is hiding a secret identity, given by a couple of hints like his mysteriousness, and his manner of speech and Northern accent.
Joe Dempsie as Gendry – Might prove invaluable in the Great War

Skilled blacksmith Gendry is actually the last surviving bloodline of House Baratheon, whose parent is King Baratheon (aka the latter’s illegitimate son). In season 7, Ser Davos comes across Gendry on the Street of Steel, and he takes him with him. It is expected that in season 8, Gendry may be the skilled hand to work dragonglass into a weapon, but the big question is who will be wielding this weapon! In season 7, Gendry also went on a mission to request help for Jon, who is under attack beyond the Wall. Gendry completes his mission, proving he is reliable – an important trait for what’s to come in season 8.
Hannah Murray as Gilly – Might be killed by Samwell, her love

Gilly is fathered by a wilding beyond the Wall, and she resides in Craster’s Keep with him, and also happens to be his wife. She’s one of nineteen wives at the time of the War of the Five Kings. Her father has impregnated her through unseemly relations and Samwell Tarly is quite taken by Gilly’s innocence and runs off with her. In season 7, Gilly and Sam are reading together when Gilly says that Prince ‘Ragger’s’ (she mispronounced Rhaegar) marriage has been annulled in order for him to marry secretly in Dorne. Sam pays no attention, not realizing that it is important information – revealing Jon Snow as the heir to the Iron Throne.
Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei – Might be a traitor

The lovely Missandei was born on the island Naarth, which is off the coast of Sothoryos, from which she was snatched at five years old and taken in as a slave to serve as interpreter (she knows 19 different languages) for the Masters of Astapor. Missandei is released from her service when Daenerys overthrew the slavers by winning over the Unsullied army, after which Missandei serves as the adviser to Daenerys. A fan by the name of ‘GOT Guy’ has speculated that, after much analysis, Missandei will turn out to be a spy, apparently consorting with the enemy in season 8.
Richard Dormer as Beric Dondarrion – Might have survived after witnessing the invasion of the Night King & his army

Here we have Lord Beric Dondarrion, aka Lord of Blackhaven, who’s also the head of House Dondarrion. He lost his life five times and every time was resurrected by Thoros. Beric and his surviving members have made it their duty to help in the war against the White Walkers, realizing that the army of the dead is the “true enemy.” In season 7, Beric is in Eastwatch when he witnesses the Night King and his army enter the Seven Kingdoms, with the Night King straddled on Viserion, who has joined the undead. It is unclear whether Beric has survived, but some fans expect that he did live after all.
Ben Crompton as Eddison Tollett – Might avoid death if he skips Castle Black or the army of the dead

Eddison Tollett, brother of the Night’s Watch, is close friends with the King of the North, Jon Snow. He is also friends with Samwell Tarly, Pypar, and Grenn. Edd is unofficially given the duty of Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch by Jon Snow when Jon leaves for Castle Black. In season 7, Edd comes across Bran Stark and Meera Reed North of the Wall, and he is suspicious of them but Bran convinces him eventually. It has been confirmed that Edd’s character is part of the cast for season 8 of the show, but what is in store for him, we aren’t all that sure.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Gregor Clegane – Might fight his brother Sandor Clegane

Gregor Clegane is the older brother of Sandor Clegane, and he is the knight of House Clegane. He is notorious for his fearlessness, ferocity, excessive violence, and his ruthless attitude. He is of massive size, which is why he is nicknamed ‘The Mountain.’ In season 7, Gregor Clegane is all too ready to murder Jaime Lannister, simply waiting for a breath of a command by Cersei, but it never comes. Jaime slips by Clegane as Jaime calls Cersei’s bluff. In season 8, it is expected that the much-awaited ‘Cleganebowl’ will finally take place – that is, a showdown between Ser Gregor Clegane and Sandor Clegane.
Jacob Anderson as Grey Worm – Might play an important role with Tyrion & Daenerys

Grey Worm is the commander of the warrior eunuchs called the Unsullied, and he is also the love interest of Missandei. In season 7, Grey Worm leads the attack on Casterly Rock, making use of a secret passage into the castle that was built by Tyrion. In King’s Landing, the Unsullied reunite with the Dothraki and besiege the city. They all return to Dragonstone thereafter. It is anticipated that Grey Worm may have bigger dealings in season 8, conspiring with Tyrion and Daenerys. Season 8 will come with all the answers we need, though.
Daniel Portman as Podrick Payne – Might fight the White Walkers

Podrick is a distant relation to Ser Ilyn Payne, and he is the squire for Ser Lorimer. On a particular night of drunkenness, Lorimer stole a ham and shared it with Podrick, but they were caught and sentenced to death. However, Podrick’s life was spared for being from the House Payne. Tywin Lannister punished Podrick by commanding him to serve Tyrion Lannister as a squire. In season 7, we see Podrick learning to wield a sword and become a capable fighter, as taught by Brienne of Tarth. In Season 8, perhaps he will eventually put up a good fight against the White Walkers.
Rupert Vansittart as Yohn Royce – Might die during battle

Lord Yohn Royce is known as Bronze Yohn as well, and he is Lord of Runestone. He is a loyal and powerful bannerman for House Stark and House Arryn. In season 7, Royce makes his appearance at the execution of Lord Baelish by Arya Stark, and he seems rather pleased with the fact that Baelish’s treachery has finally come to an end. In season 8, Rupert Vansittart has been confirmed as part of the cast for the final haul! Fans speculate that since Royce is a military commander, he will be at the frontline of the war – much easier for writers to kill the character. In any case, your guess is as good as ours!
Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark – Might be resurrected

Catelyn Stark of House Tully died a miserable death in the Red Wedding. She witnessed the brutal killing of her son’s wife, who was bearing her grandchild, and then the killing of her son, at the hands of Walder Frey. The latter would be later avenged by Arya Stark. Well, in the novel, Catelyn Stark is resurrected in the form of Lady Stoneheart by Beric Dondarrion’s kiss, which transfers through him one of his lives to her. Well, it has been omitted from the series thus far but fans have a feeling it may be worked into season 8 somehow.
Drogon – Might become significantly larger than before

Daenerys hatched three dragon eggs, and Drogon was one of the three dragons that were born in the Dothraki Sea. Daenerys named him after Khal Drogo, her late Dothraki husband. Daenerys has mounted Drogo on several occasions during the series, and of all three of her dragons, he is the only dragon she rides. Drogon is the largest and the fiercest of her dragons. In season 7, we see Drogon just missing being struck during the fight against the wights beyond the Wall. It is expected that Drogon is still growing, as dragons take years to grow, so he may be even more massive in season 8.
Rhaegal – Might be mounted By Jon Snow

Rhaegal is another of Daenerys’ dragons, and he happens to be named after Rhaegar, who is Daenerys Targaryen’s biggest brother. Rhaegal has yellow-orange wings and displays a green and bronze coat of scales. Rhaegal follows Daenerys’ commands but does not have a rider. Fans speculate that perhaps Jon Snow will ride Rhaegal, as he is Aegon Targaryen after all, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Well, Daenerys does not know it yet by the end of season 7. This is spurred on by the fact that one of Daenerys’ dragons did take a liking to Jon earlier in the series.
Sean Bean as Ned Stark – Might’ve been alive after all

Yet another theory exists that sure complicates matters. Some are of the opinion that the head of House Stark, Ned Stark, may actually be alive. Yes, he was executed before thousands of people but it is suggested that it may have been Jaqen H’ghar, the Faceless Man, who replaced Ned Stark with an imposter for his own execution; it might’ve been a deal between Jaqen and Varys. If Ned were indeed alive, he would have fled Westeros and would be hiding someplace where he would not be discovered. Still, though, others feel perhaps that Ned will return in the army of the Night King and have to fight his living children.
Tom Wlaschiha as Jaqen H’ghar – Might appear in Season 8 after all, perhaps as Rhaegar Targaryen in disguise

The character who introduces himself as Jaqen H’ghar is, in fact, ‘Faceless Man’ who has simply assumed the identity of Jaqen. The Faceless Men are an order of mysterious assassins who possess the ability to alter their appearances at will, assuming the identity of whosoever they please. Tom Wlaschiha plays Jaqen, and he dropped a hint that he may be cast in season 8, which brings many fans to wonder whether he may even be Rhaegar Targaryen in clever disguise. Well, directors Benioff and Weiss are known to have added a trail of misinformation just to get fans fired up!
Tyrion made a deal with Cersei & will betray Daenerys

Tyrion Lannister, younger brother of twins Cersei and Jaime Lannister, may have been up to no good in season 7. Fans have theorized that there may have been a conversation between Tyrion and Cersei after the point at which he realizes that Cersei is pregnant. At the same time, he’s been trying to convince her to co-operate with Jon and Daenerys. It is suggested that Tyrion may have actually made some sort of a deal with his conniving sister to ensure her child would be in the line of succession to the throne before Daenerys. Well, that might explain Tyrion’s look of concern when he stands outside the door as Daenerys and Jon consummate their relationship!
Arya will become Littlefinger

Arya Stark is one of the last three remaining surviving Starks along with Sansa and Bran. In season 7, we see that Arya has become a ruthless warrior, slitting Littlefinger’s throat on Sansa’s orders for treason and murder. It can reasonably be assumed that Arya will use Petyr Baelish’s face to travel to King’s Landing, especially since Baelish’s demise will be quite unknown. This will not be a new move, as Arya has used Walder Frey’s face to murder him and his people in the season premiere. Perhaps season 8 will see more names scratched off Arya’s ‘kill-list’ down South.
